There's A New Princess In Town

Please join us in welcoming our new addition. Lorelei Sprinkles. Oh yes, I am a sucker. We ran to our local PetSmart to buy a new snail (for the frogs) and walked in to the Humane Society adoption room. This sweet kitty just purred when the girls tried to reach here between the bars. She is deaf so she was/is not bothered at all by Bean the Bullhorn. Fate I tell ya. Such a sweet sweet cat. She even sleeps with Cake already. The fur I can do without but the sneezing/watery eyes haven't been that bad. I really try not to touch her much and she is not allowed in our room. Sucker.

San Francisco

Awards Night Dinner

We had an awsome time on our week long trip to SF. What a fun city!! Whenever we go somewhere new I try to imagine how much I would like living there. I think I could handle The City, as the locals call it. Such a warm vibe. The traffic is CRAZY though.

First Stop Chinatown. I got the girls the cutest little "silk" pjs. But the smell....not good if you don't like seafood. We did a tea tasting (like a wine tasting) and spent way to much money. Well not if I actually drank hot tea. Guess I'll have to start!!

Why the boys like the warf. Open containers!!

Hubby, me, and Lil' Bro

Me doing my best Carmen San Diego. Come on you remember.

"Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?"

Seriously, it's pretty chilly on the water.

The ferry ride to Alcatraz

Alcatraz is somewhere I have always wanted to go. They hand out headsets and you are guided around by the voices of former inmates and guards.

Packing boxes for the USO. I think we packed about 15,000 care packages!!! What a fun and rewarding day. We also had groups working on Habitat for Humanity and doing service projects all around the city. In all honesty I was so glad I didn't have to build this year!! I am not good with a hammer and worry for the people who get the houses I've worked on.

Hub and I in the hotel lobby before dinner one night.

We also took trips to Berkley (Cakes and Bean.. future bears???) and Sausalito (breathtaking). I ate some much wonderful food and had a great time just being with Hubby. Truely a blessing to be able to go on these trips. Big thanks to the Memaw and Papa who ones again rocked it and made the girls wish we took more trips!!

long gone

I can't believe so much time has gone by... Many excuses. The major one being I'm a mother and sick, which we know means sick with no chance of fast recovery. Throw in all the end of the year obligations and there you go.

Cabbage Patch Kids

We took a drive up to Babyland General Hospital last week. Like most girls raised in the 80's I was really into the Cabbage Patch Kids. I always wanted one with red hair. I never got a red headed "baby" (they are not to be called dolls or face the certain wrath of hospital employees) I did have a premie and one of the Cornsilk Kids (fake hair instead of yarn). My mom even made me one. If I recall correctly I threw a fit and wouldn't touch it. I never claimed to be a sweet child. In my defence it did have pink hair. Cakes in front of the newborn nursery. No lost teeth, just a piece of gum.
The coolest part is watching an actually baby be born. After birth the baby is named after kids in the crowd. They are then up for adoption. The dolls, not the actual children:)

All of the babies in the displays are available for adoption.

Of course the only way out is through the gift shop.

After the hospital we drove up to Helen, Ga. The town is set up like a Bavarian Village. We took a carriage ride and the girls were able to feed the horse, Nelly, a carrot afterwards. These pictures pretty much sum up the girls personalities. Cakes is a bit timid and needs lots of encouragement while Bean is right out there.

Savannah

A few much over due photos of our trip to Savannah. It really is a beautiful city and we had so much fun!! We rode around on one of the trolleys which was great because you could get on and off all day. It made it super easy to explore or just sit back and listen to the guide. Very convenient with little ones.
We had lunch at Lady and Sons

Mom was able to meet the sons (Jamie and Bobby)

Fried Green Tomatoes= Yummy

Waiting to get my grub on

Bean and Cakes really enjoyed the trip. I was worried it wouldn't be much fun for them, but all the beautiful squares provided much needed breaks.

A Planner I Am Not

I'm thinking a trip to the grocery store is in order.

Beads!?

I ordered Cakes this adorable swimsuit. The problem is the way the top is cut. The angle is just a little inappropriate for a 4 year old. I think, I'll have her try it on for Mom and see what she thinks. We were out shopping at Gap today, looking at other suits. I held one up to Cakes to see if she liked it. She said, "No, I can't wear that. It will show my nickels." Okay...So now she has "nickels" on the mind. Not 2 minutes later I turn around to find her dancing in front of a mirror Mardi Gras style!!! Modest, not so much.

Funk

I've been so unproductive lately. This time of year just doesn't do it for me. It's like I'm in a holding pattern. My Mom doesn't get here for another week(can't wait). We are taking a trip the Savannah in March. On the way we will stop and see our dear friends in Charleston who had a baby boy yesterday!!! Welcome Baby C!! Then, the first week of April Hubby and I are going to San Francisco for a week. Little Bro lives there so I can't wait for that trip. Then on the VA for Easter. I have so much to look forward to and should be preparing because once things start happening time will fly. So what am I doing? Sipping Diet Coke and reading blog. We'll call it research I think.
My neighborhood has a twice yearly yard sale. I find myself hoarding stuff to sell. The garage is pretty full right now. Before each sale I tell myself I'm going to donate all the leftovers. Which is super easy because to donation truck comes and gets it all at the end of sale day. Yet somehow I hold on the a tub or so of things I "know" will sell next time. These tubs multiply. A lot. The tax receipt just doesn't supply the same amount of satisfaction as all those quarters I collect after a day a sellin'
I've decided that I will refer to the girls by their nicknames Miss A=Cakes age 4 Miss L=Bean age 2

Question?

Is it wrong to give your child a Slimfast because you're too lazy to make a "real" chocolate milk? Actually, don't answer. I just can't handle the truth.

Lazy Days

It's almost 3 pm and I'm still in my p.j.s. I would still be in bed but for some reason my children seem to think food is a requirement. Silly babies. Not much new has been going on here. I feel like we are just killing time. Anyone else ever feel that way?
I am not an outdoorsy type person. As in I don't even like to be in the backyard. I did feel bad yesterday when Miss A wanted to go outside and play. Not bad enough to actually experience the fresh air mind you. More like the kind of quilt you feel when you buy a new pair of shoes. You know you don't need them, but also know they're not going back to the store. She even tried to get Miss L out there. L flatly refused (I knew I liked her). We ended up playing Barbies instead. Which while still painful after about 5 min was infinitely better then dirt and sunshine (don't worry, I take my vit D). I did realize that many of my fashion choices may have been influenced by my doll's clothing. Not the 80's rocker stuff of course, but many of my old Barbie clothes are CUTE. Strapless black lace cocktail dress, would kill for that in my size. Well 2 sizes smaller. That's a whole different post. So maybe the dolls you play with do shape your personality. If so, those Bratz playing kids are in for a rough ride. Note to self, spring for the tastefull American Girl dolls.

Miss A in '08

I wanted to jot down a couple of Miss A memories before they are forgotten. Above is a self portrait she drew. I, of course, think it is beautiful. Way above average for a 4 year old!! But my favorite part, she remembered her bow!!! A mean really who cares if you have 19 fingers. Distract them with a bit of grosgrain perfection.
Miss A was lying down in the playroom one day contemplating the meaning of it all. Or watching Finding Nemo. I can't seem to recall which. Anyway, she asked for a blanket. I brought her one and she looked up at me sweetly and said, "No Mom, I need the purple one. It's monogrammed." My heart nearly swelled out of my chest!!!

A New Year

Well, it's a new year. I have no idea where 2008 went. I AM going to blog more. I spend time everyday looking at them, I WILL do my own. Does it sound like I mean it??!!

Christams was fun. I really wanted the girls to be able to stay home and not have to travel on Christmas day. So we hosted for the first time. I don't think much faith was put in me because more food was brought then you can imagine. Sooooo many leftovers. All in all it was a fun stress free day. Both Hubby's brothers where here and I know that meant a lot to him.

Miss A & Miss L recieved S'mores the pony. You know, the big robot one. I t was a gift from my mom and dad. I'm pretty sure Miss A knew it was coming though. We were in the grocery store on day before Christmas and she was acting pretty sassy. I reminded her that Santa was watching and it was possible he would not bring presents. She thought for a second, then mumbled, "I'm still getting a pony." I think even the bag boy was surprised by her, shall we say, spunk.

Another funny. While driving down the road Miss A says to Miss L, "Eww chicken nuggets. You know what those are made of?" I thought to myself here it comes she's finally put it together. Chicken = dead bird But to my relief the answer, "It's made of potatoes." Crisis averted, well delayed anyway.
